Alice Assignment
You have two options.
1) A game – I’d prefer if you tried this option. The game does not have to be long or complex. See the example flight simulator built into Alice. Also see http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=alice+programming+game&aq=f for some videos showing games other people have made. It is probably best to think of a game you already know and recreate it or something like it. Go for entertainment value .. create something fun. The sky is the limit.
2) A movie – if you pick this option, I’m expecting something more complex than if you pick the game option. Your movie should be approximately 4-5 minutes long and incorporate a well defined plot & characters, a conflict, a climax, etc. You should use multiple camera angles and various methods of framing (i.e. some wide shots, some tight shots, etc.) Music videos are also a good option (remember, music videos will often still have plot and characters, but the main challenge here will be making your characters dance!).
For either option, it is not a bad idea to have a plan before you begin – a storyboard. I will not collect storyboards this time, just use it as a tool to guide your work. Please keep the themes PG – nothing overly violent, gory or inappropriate in any other ways.
You may work alone or in teams of 2. If you work in a team, you do not have to just crowd around one computer – each of you can work on parts of the code separately and then put it together only after you have it figured out. (Split up the scenes in the movie or the functionality you need in the game.)
Due Date: ??? To be determined. This will depend on how hard I see everyone working and how far along people are in general.
