Journals
Journals are a one-page, handwritten or typed (double spaced), reflection.  The goal is to relate the topics learned in class to your personal life experience to show me that you understand how the concepts apply to your life.  I will provide questions to get you thinking; however, you do not have to answer all the questions each time.

Journal #1 – Self-Concept
Pick one topic:

  • How does your behaviour change as you move from role to role (i.e. friend at GLCHS vs other friends vs daughter/son vs employee, etc)?  How does your self-concept change as your behaviour changes in each role?
  • Describe your identity crisis as an adolescent.
  • Do you think you look at yourself more or less critically than others look at you?  What has surprised you about how other people see you?

Journal #2 – Agents of My Socialization
What agents of socialization were most important during my childhood?  What specifically did I learn and how? (Behaviourally).  What agents of socialization are most important to me now?  Get specific and give examples!

Journal #3 – Styles of Conflict Management

  • Read the green box on page 229 of your textbook
  • Which of the styles of conflict management apply most to you? (You may identify strongly with one, or you might be a combination of two.)
  • What are the strengths and weaknesses of your style?
  • Give specific examples of times when you had to deal with conflict and what happened to support your opinion.
