Another milestone.
I’m way past being excited about birthdays. Not quite to the point where I despise them.
One thing is for certain, life continues to surprise me. I certainly don’t have it all figured out. I’m still learning to be content with whatever life circumstances I find myself in and not be disappointed when things don’t go according to (my) plan. Easier said than done.
This past year has gone by incredibly quickly. Looking back, it’s been a rewarding year with plenty of great memories. It has also been challenging – and I say that in a positive way.
The coming year is going to be one of major change. Don’t know just yet exactly what shape that will take but trust that whatever is meant to be will be.
Blog Identity Crisis.
My blog is going through a mid-life crisis.
I started it to highlight travel adventures.
Clearly it’s turned into a catch-all for anything and everything I want to ramble about.
I always thought a good blog should have a good focus. So much for that
Be Still.
This verse is a reminder I need often.
When I read it, I remember that it’s far too easy to be “busy”. We fill every moment with things we have to do. Most of these are legitimate. Some of things are choices. Do we need to check facebook as often as we do? No. Do we need to watch TV every day? No. Take a look at what fills your day – chances are there are at least a couple of items you could chose to do without (now and again).
Whether you are religious or not, it’s important to make a conscious decision to take a “time out” on a regular basis.
Reflection is so important. A time to be honest about life, where it’s at, where it’s going, priorities, goals, next steps.
As is prayer, if you’re so inclined.
Or writing in a journal.
But more than all of these – doing nothing. Absolutely nothing. Being still. Fighting the urge to fidget, to check your cell phone, to listen to music. Quiet. Nothingness.
You might be surprised with what you hear and feel in the silence.
Change is Inevitable
In the realm of technology, one thing is always certain: change will happen whether you like it or not.
Facebook will change its format. Many times. (Fair warning: the latest incarnation, Facebook Timeline, is in your immediate future.)
Computers will get outdated and replaced by newer, better, and cheaper versions.
Software will update.
New technologies will emerge that we can’t even imagine. Things that will change our world and replace old, comfortable tools.
We have two choices.
We can whine, complain, protest, dig in our heels and try to stick to our old, tried and true ways.
Or.
We can embrace it and adapt.
Either way – change will happen.
Because you can never watch too many cute cat videos.
Here’s my boy, Jackson, having some fun today:
There’s something about watching cat videos on YouTube that just sucks me in. At least they’re cute & make me smile!
